From our inception, Bennett & Williams focuses on better ways to address the environmental challenges surrounding planning, siting, management, closure and post closure of Solid and Hazardous Waste Disposal Facilities (solid and hazardous landfills, construction debris landfills, and transfer stations). Our clients include and have included State Solid Waste Boards, County Governments, Health Departments, Municipalities and Private businesses.
One of our first solid waste projects included the early siting and development of the Franklin County Landfill (Columbus, Ohio) where we were involved with the design and implementation of the first slurry wall to contain leachate from moving offsite. In an eastern Ohio landfill we installed the first fabricated liner to create a barrier to control leachate migration. Our landfill and hazardous materials disposal management services encompassed a number of states in the Midwest and Mid Atlantic regions of the United States. Our experience reaches across several environmental and geological settings and various regulatory ruling approaches.
In recent years we have worked with several County governments and solid waste agencies manage the long-term closures of landfills. Our unique qualifications are often leveraged to assist our clients obtain environmental compliance through monitoring, post closure reporting and agency interactions. Our knowledge of the regulations and experience with environmental monitoring process can often reduce the financial burden and potential impact to the environment if and when hazardous releases occur post closure.

One unique project highlighted many of the various solid and hazardous waste skills we developed over our history. The City of Colonial Heights in the state of Virginia retained us for the first Voluntary Action Program (VAP) in Virginia. Their old municipal landfill had encroached on some land earmarked for commercial development. Bennett & Williams worked with the city to remove the uncontrolled trash from subject property. The land was reclaimed for development of a commercial building and the trash was removed and separated for proper disposal.
